George (a boxer), was the 5500th painting from our wall of compassion project, and the final portrait after 4-straight years of a very sad and arduous journey. During a 3-day new year's break, shelter staff left George without medical care, knowing he was bleeding and the staff who came in to feed the dogs over that holiday, ignored George's cries for help, walking over his pool of blood. By the time the staff had returned from their celebrations, George had bled to death.
